HISTORY
The first inspiration for the founding of The Cornerstone Organization happened in Rah Village, Kampong Chhnang on August 13, 2009, and registered on September 18, 2012 as an NGO at Ministry of Interior.. A Cambodian friend, Narein, told Rogil about his friend whose father was dying in the village of Rah, in Kampong Chhnang province. We decided to visit the father and when we got there, we saw the tragic picture of misery. The father was paralyzed and he could barely open his eyes. Indeed, the entire scene in Rah told a story of poverty. The village had no easy access to a free medical assistance, the sanitation was poor, and malnutrition was common.

Sadly, the father died three days after our visit. On the brighter side, however, that visit paved the way for us to bring help to Rah at least once a month since September 2009, such as dental and medical mission, clothes-giving, literacy for children, etc. Moreover, it led us to organize a non-government organization named as The Cornerstone Organization, which not only cover outreach in Rah, Kampong Chhnang province but also campus work in Phnom Penh.

When Rogil and Janice officially moved to Phnom Penh on June 2, 2010, they began teaching English to 20 university students in July 2010 for free. They had immediately realized the need for young people in Cambodia to learn English in order to get good jobs in the future. Later our Scholarship Program was established when one of our English students, Nary, could no longer continue her studies after she had finished her first year. Her parents were poor and they could not sustain her study costs. We did not want her to quit school, however, so we looked for a sponsor for her. Happily, someone responded generously. Nary became our first scholar, one of the 3 scholars who are now all professionals since September 2014.
