I grew up with my family in a Catholic setting in the Philippines. But I got to know the Lord personally here in Cambodia through a basketball camp in the Highlands. My friends knew I loved basketball and they invited me to go with them to a basketball camp event. I thought we were just gonna play basketball but what I didn't know was that I would accept the Lord as my personal savior at that camp.
That was nine years ago, I was 31 back then. It's really a blessing because it's also the time the girl I was praying for and courting for more than a year answered with the sweetest yes to my advances. She is now my loving wife.
Back then she didn't know that I accepted the Lord at the camp. I believe that she was praying also for me to come to know the Lord. The Lord has changed a lot of things in me. My friends and family members were so surprised about the changes in my heart and life. I stopped hanging out with my old friends. I suddenly became busy attending church services and going to bible studies. I used to drink alcohol and hangout with the wrong friends in clubs.
Sadly, my actions and words were really ungodly. I moved here in Cambodia to replace my mom's position in teaching biomechanical therapy. I never thought that I would become a person having a purpose in life. Or have a family of my own and joyfully serve the Lord here.
There were many challenges that I faced being here in Cambodia. Like being away from my family and managing my finances in a foreign country. But trusting the Lord gives me confidence and hope that He will provide. He is here with me. I am not perfect but I am a work in progress.
