September 9-10 the Khmer group enjoyed a retreat at Amarak Facility just outside of Phnom Penh.
The group found the meeting place conducive and inviting. A hard rain on Saturday wetted down some 27 attendees as they traveled to the event.
But spirits remained high and with the nice buildings and beautiful nature at Amarak the retreat went on as planned.
An activity called “Embracing the Cross” was conducted where participants had to be blindfolded. A maze was setup making an eventual path to a small wooden cross. Two helpers would call out directions to the blindfolded participant. One helper was calling out correct advice the other called out wrong instructions.
This game was to signify a person’s personal journey in finding Jesus. Sometimes, in life, people help one find Christ but sadly sometimes folks give out bad information and discouragement.
Of course walking around blindfolded is not easy but eventually all participants found the little cross.
Later, the retreaters watched a video about Jesus and his crucifixion. The earlier activity and the subsequent video brought the Message of Jesus home to the people present.
Small groups were formed then to discuss their reactions. The next day, Sunday, a worship service was held where Pastor Rogil preached about Jeremiah 36 (Mercy, Hard Heart, and Persistent faithfulness) followed by another small group discussions and reporting per group.
During the retreat there was ample time for good Christian fellowship and relaxation.
